Set on the South
Coast of Wessex, England as the Viking army continues to ravage the
country, to obtain total control.
Rosamund, a
Princess of Mercia has been sold by her own people, and is now traveling
with Merriwen as a part of Jarl Guthrum’s Viking army. A group of British
hostages have been killed, only one remains, Boda, the man who tried to
save them. Chained, shackled and badly beaten, he’s on the frost cold
ground left for dead. For some reason Rosamund couldn’t fathom she learns
he’s from Mercia and wants to save him. Thorkill is Guthrum’s man and she
challenges him and wins. She needs Boda’s strength and help if they are to
escape from this madness alive.
Boda is determined
to escape despite the chains; he believes the king’s men will be watching,
ready to help. Rosamund and her charge will also be sent to Wessex, where
they will be safe.
A slice of history
in the Middle Ages has been recreated in this vivid tale. King Alfred of
Wessex, fights to hold his land, too much is at stake for any of them to
lose focus and allow the Vikings to conquer more land. Amidst the ferocity
of battles and intrigues, this enthralling tale of valor and self
sacrifice is a page turner. The plot follows Earl Guthrum and his greed,
after he broke the fragile peace with savage slaughter. His men are
hungry, and no army can march or fight on an empty stomach. The hero and
heroine are well matched and broker a fragile peace of their own as desire
begins to blossom. Secrets, sexual tension and the hardship of lives in
this time, are vividly depicted. All are scarred by the relentless war,
giving the story extra tension as their plans unfold. |
