This is the tale of an
un-named bard, imprisoned on a whim and now dreaming of past sexual
pleasures and the life of luxury he once had within the court.
Left to rot in a dirty cell
he only dreams of his mistress, the Princess Elizabethe and their sexual
encounters. He has lost all sense of time and is no longer sure how long
he has been incarcerated down there. When he hears a voice speak the
tongue of his homeland, he calls out and a Tantaran priestess arrives
outside his cell. She ministers to him and mentions the next slave market
of Tierancu, and hints he will end up there.
The plot was easy to follow
and let the reader know what was happening. There were a few typing
errors, that should have been picked up. This reviewer found the
characters to be very human, although the bard came over as more
interested in sex than writing poetry and singing to the court. The
opening passages were interesting, but the sexual encounter could put some
readers off. The tone and style were a little slow at times, despite being
only sixteen pages. The ending was a little obscure as the reader is left
stranded with no idea of what will come. It certainly left this reviewer
up in the air, and a little frustrated; it was almost as if this was a
chapter out of a novel. There was not enough interaction between the
characters for the reader to really know them or find out what motivated
them.
