Fantasy Erotic Romance/ Nontraditional Sexualities

Two best friends rent a speed boat and take it to the Bermuda Triangle.  Sammy is very open to the ideas of psychic abilities and other unexplained mysteries.  Twig, on the other hand, is a complete skeptic.  A bizarre change in the sky, swirling indigo, suddenly appears and increases in strength.   Our two heroines are just able to grab up their supplies and grab onto each other when they are yanked out of their boat by this strange phenomenon.  When they awaken, they find the things they had hastily gathered and themselves on a beach.

As Sammy and Twig make their way in search of other people, giant rats attack.  Thankfully, the women are saved from a gory death.  Cats the size of Great Danes appear followed by pony-sized dogs which are accompanied by two men and a warrior-like woman.   All suspicions that they are no longer on Earth as they knew it solidify into realization when they notice that the night sky has two moons.

This was a very well written story that was able to incorporate its more exotic elements in a logically explained way.  Readers will be able to lose themselves in this alternative reality and in the exploration of this other Earth by Sammy and Twig.

Both heroines are wonderfully resourceful and one enjoys seeing their ability to take stock of situations and form plans accordingly.  It is always fun to read compelling characters who are adaptable survivors.

The fertile imagination of the author gives us a world where the term extended family finds new meaning and the members making up a family include mem, fem, and hem.  To translate for those who live firmly on this Earth, that would be men, women, and hermaphrodites.  People have changed and hermaphroditism and telepathy have become more common traits in the population.  With these mutations has eventually come a more openly loving, multiple-partner style of family that embraces all of the different genders.  There is of course a conflicting radical group who do not accept this turn in nature.

Ms. Karmazin is truly talented to have been able to keep so many characters identifiable with different traits and personalities.  For example, the family that woos the two friends include six mem, one fem, and one hem yet readers will not run into the problem of mixing up the male characters.

The action and adventure, world building, and steamily erotic social situations are entrancing.  Some may find that the latter pushes their boundaries of comfort but in truth the portrayal of the subject matter was done with such a natural feel that this reviewer was truly impressed.

Readers should be aware that there are scenes of multiple partner, same gender and alternative gender sex.
