Five years ago, a
fire destroyed Erik du Sable’s home. Fear for the love of his life,
Kasare, he lets everyone think he died and so, together with the ashes
of his home, he lives in seclusion except for a faithful servant. The
years have turned him into a phantom. Kasare hasn’t forgotten the man
she loved and who she will always love. Then she receives an invitation
for a masquerade party. But she cannot possibly go, it’s on the
anniversary of her and Erik’s engagement party. And she cannot go with
Jean Luc Honore, the handsome man who has been courting her. It could
be a night of betraying Erik or a night of moving on with her life. Or
it could mean her death.
This is a very
exciting story. A story of lost love found, and the pain of possibly
losing it again. The plot is well done and the characters are alive and
vibrant. Erik is a dark, brooding, tortured hero and Kasare has always
loved him, in spite of everything.
This is also a
very erotic story with voyeurism, exhibitionism, ménage and sex in
public places. There is a bit of men on men sex too. But, Gabrina
Garza has blended all these elements into a historical romance and makes
it all quite believable. It’s a great read and I for one enjoyed it a
lot. Sexual tension is high throughout and the danger to the heroine
and hero kept me on the edge of my seat.
