Simone Glass
finds herself working for an infamous scandal sheet and she’s learning
things she didn’t learn in journalism school. Things like, wearing
rubber gloves while searching through the trash, never give your real
name and trust no one. Hollywood is a pot seething with scandal and
Simone is hot on it’s trail. She hides out in a dumpster to overhear an
incriminating conversation, works as a waitress to get in on a party and
sneaks onto the set of the new, hot TV series, Suburban Indiscretions.
When a soap opera star is found dead and her assistant is insisting that
someone killed her, Simone starts to investigate. Then a stripper is
found drenched in her own blood and suddenly everyone is acting
paranoid. She needs to uncover the murderer and quickly, before she
herself becomes just a statistic.
This reviewer
enjoys an action-packed mystery and Alison Gaylin delivers a mystery
with a punch. Her characters are down to earth, gutsy and
multi-dimensional. Ms. Gaylin writes a snappy story that holds the
reader until its last page. Using Hollywood and its sordid, dirty
scandals, Ms. Gaylin leads her reader down dark alleys and introduces
many a shady character. She keeps her readers guessing, throwing out
one red herring after another. This reviewer was hanging on until the
end wondering just who the criminal was. Simone is a sympathetic
heroine whose conscience gets her in trouble sometimes. There is also a
romantic connection running through the story that adds a little sizzle
and spark. Alison Gaylin is an author that is on this reviewer’s ‘to
watch’ list and this reviewer will certainly be looking up her back
titles.
