A cheating wife
and divorce left the Bahia Vista, homicide detective, Theo Petrakos
singing the blues, but there are greater troubles to be seen. Zombie
attacks which leave a person resembling a mummified corpse and just as
dead, for one. For another, high tech aliens battling the terrifying
abominations who decide he knows too much and must be relocated to
ensure the secret of their reality and presence. Desperate to stay on
the world he knows and to fight the threat to all he holds dear, Theo
leads them into making him their ally and cover for operating on Earth.
Unfortunately, the wily Guardian Force implant a device to ensure his
complete cooperation meaning at the end of the danger he will still be
forced to leave for good.
Commander Jorie
Mikkalah is given the opportunity of her career, a chance to win a
captaincy if she is successful in destroying the herd of Zombies. These
biomechanical organisms were created by her people long ago for a
helpful purpose, but they no longer have any control of these deadly
things. She grows to suspect an even more malevolent enemy as she
studies the situation. With a change in circumstances and the possible
treachery from a member of her team, she is soon left with almost no one
she can trust other than the brave man with a very good face from this
nil-tech world.
Ms. Sinclair
pulls out a treat for us from her fertile imagination. Think of this as
a bit of a Star Trek/Star Wars crossed with romance on planet Earth.
Readers will be impressed with the detail into the technology used by
the aliens, laugh at the misunderstandings of language and culture, and
be captivated with the description of action scenes. Oh, and the
romance is something pretty wonderful, too. One must admit that a
fairly steady supply by the aliens of derogatory comments about our
technological lack, though understandable, does rankle a bit.
The heroine is
similarly unimpressed but after a time she grows to appreciate the
people and the place. Her sense of duty is added upon by her ethics
which not all of the Guardians share. The character is given depth in
her past mistakes, current problems both personal and professional, and
conflicts of interest in regards to the hero.
Theo is a
fantastic hero. His sense of humor and instinct to protect combined
with his determination to help against this mind-boggling danger fairly
screams appeal. For all that he is a strong male; he is sensitive and
supportive when Jorie needs it most. If ever there was a character that
deserved an out of this world romance, this is him.
Readers who love
a lot of action and suspense to their romance will want to hit warp
speed and grab THE DOWN HOME ZOMBIE BLUES.
