Nona Conrad
is a young woman whose parents have died and she is guardian of her
headstrong younger sister. When she is offered a job as manager of a
fishing camp in the Arkansas woods, she jumps at the chance. But her
excitement wanes when she butts heads with the camp’s new owner, Simon
Wright. She must discover if he is an alley or an enemy when she
discovers that her despicable half-brother has stolen some money and
some dangerous men think that Nona and Maggie have it and will do
anything to get it back.
Dorothy
Garlock has penned a suspenseful tale with a rather unique storyline
that will keep the reader wondering just what is around the next corner
for Nona, Maggie, and Simon. This reader would have liked for
half-brother, Harold would have been more of a player in this book. He
isn’t even a secondary character, just mentioned in passing and yet
plays such an important role in the book’s plot. Another thing that took
away from the book, in this reviewer’s opinion is that some of the
characters just don’t come across as believable. However, thankfully,
these characters are secondary characters and they didn’t stop this
reader from enjoying the book overall.
ON TALL
PINE LAKE
is one of
many books from Ms. Garlock. However, it is the first one that this
reader has had the pleasure of reading. But most likely won’t be the
last. The prose flows smoothly and there is nary a dull moment within
these pages. So if you are looking for a romantic suspense novel to curl
up with, look for further than ON TALL PINE LAKE.
