Interview with Kristin Cast

Welcome to Love Romances & More, Ms. Cast, and thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to give our readers a chance to learn more about you.

Would you mind sharing with our readers one tidbit that no one else knows?  Any secret addictions?

I have a secret addiction to Netflix.  I obsessively search for and organize different TV shows, and try to watch at least one episode every night.  Weird, I know, but I find it oddly relaxing.

Most authors are avid readers.  If I was to look through your bookcase what names would I find?  What genre was your favorite as you were growing up?

Throughout my bookshelves you would find a plethora of Tom Picirilli, Richard Preston, Richard Matheson, and a bunch of the classic literary authors like, Jane Austen, Braum Stoker, and Willa Cather.  When I was growing up, my favorite genre was young adult romance.  The kind where the teenagers hold hands and then the scene is over.  Ya, they’re great.

If you were given the opportunity to write an anthology with any four authors, alive or dead, who would you pick and why?

  1. Braum Stoker: because I LOVE Dracula
  2. PC Cast: I think it would be awesome if my name was bigger than hers on the cover, and I want people to know how amazing and different our voices are, (but mainly so my name could be bigger than hers.  Hehe.).
  3. Gena Showalter: She is absolutely hilarious, and I know we’d make each other look phenomenal.
  4. Amelia Atwater-Rhodes: I’ve always looked up to her.  She began her career at a very young age, and I think she is a fabulous role model and story teller.

Do you have a ritual for when you complete a book?  How do you treat yourself as a reward?

I take myself out to eat.  Well, my mom takes me out to eat.  I’m in college and that automatically means I don’t have any money.  Hooray for school!

What was it like collaborating with your mother?  Is it perhaps a jumping-off point for you?  Do you plan any projects of your own, or collaborations with others, perhaps?

Working with my mom is a lot of fun.  We’ve always been really close, and it’s just made our relationship stronger.  Right now I am working on a story for an anthology that is being released in September by Ben Bella Books.  I’m very excited!

So how does the process work?  Do you sit in a room and brainstorm with one another, or do you do it via email or some other means?  Do you have certain music and scents floating thru the air to help summon your muse?

We work via email.  Mom will write a first draft, then send it to me and I redo it so it doesn’t sound so old ladyish.  My muse is my puppy, Sophie.  She sometimes smells like wet dog, and she likes to hop on my laptop and “help” me write, but she always lets me know that I’m doing a good job.  Thanks Sophinator.

Congratulations on your March 2008 release, CHOSEN, from St. Martin’s Griffin. Readers and reviewers are excited about this third title in your House of Night series; could you tell us a little about the story and your plans for the series? A teaser perhaps?

The only thing I’m going to say is that Zoey messes up big time.  Yep, really big.  Big, big, big.

When you’re not writing, what do you like to do to feed your mind, body, and soul?

I like to spend time with my friends or my mom, and sometimes I just like to light candles and watch some of my Netflix.

Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy day to spend with Love Romances & More !
