Stephanie Gayle’s wit and wonderful
way with words make MY SUMMER OF SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT the perfect
book for a relaxing afternoon read, regardless of the season.
Harvard Law grad Natalie Goldberg has
run all the way to Macon, Georgia to escape a poor relationship choice
that put her professional life in jeopardy. Now she strives every day
to find a place for herself while attempting to overcome the town’s
prejudices and good ole boy politics while earning very little pay and
working even longer hours. Making things more difficult for Natalie is
thinking she is seeing her former lover everywhere she goes. It’s a
good thing that Natalie is nothing if she is not determined.
Stephanie Gayle’s MY SUMMER OF
SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT is, as the cover so aptly suggests, a book that
all ages can equally enjoy. This is a book that you can be proud to
suggest to your 15-year-old niece, your 85-year-old grandmother and
suggest as a read for your monthly book club.
MY SUMMER OF SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT
is an insightful look into relationships, choices, actions and the
prejudices that follow each of us in our lives. Natalie is a strong
woman whose life path appears to be heading on exactly the path she has
set for herself until she makes a poor romantic choice that puts her
entire future in question. How she deals with that choice and its
consequences makes for a powerful story of courage, fortitude and
resilience.
Ms. Gayle does a wonderful job of
describing the Southern landscape and attitudes toward an outsider with
big city ideas. The minor characters, the Miss Georgia defense
attorney, Lala and her relaxing garden and even Natalie’s parents and
friends from back home all come together wonderfully to weave a story
that is thought provoking and uplifting.
For those fiction readers that find
they really enjoy those inspiring book club picks, Stephanie Gayle’s
MY SUMMER OF SOUTHERN DISCOMFORT will be worth the price and a
perfect choice.
